Popup menu in the Graphics window

Depending on the type of graph, the associated popup menu contains different items that can be used to control various aspects of that graph. Only three menu items are common to all types of graphs, and only these are described on this page. For others, refer to the specific type of graph in the menu bar to the left of the screen.

Print

Selecting Print invokes the operating system's print dialog, which allows the user to print the graph with any printer connected to the computer or to print to a PDF file, etc. These possibilities depend on the configuration and software of the particular computer (and printer).

Export Graph to File

Invoking Export Graph to File brings up a dialog box for saving the active graph as a graphics file.

Graphics can be saved either as vector graphics in the .svg format or as raster graphics in the .png, .bmp, .jpg, or .gif formats. The vector graphics option saves the objects in the graph to a file, whereas the raster graphics option saves the graphics pixel by pixel as they appear on the screen.

Use  the .svg vector graphics format for editing with graphics software to prepare figures for publication. Because the items in the graph themselves are stored in the file, they can be rendered at any resolution without loss of quality by pixellation; this makes the .svg the format of choice for exporting graphs for publication. This format also provides the greatest flexibility for changing colors, line widths and other attributes of the graph. Most graphs are meant to be edited before publication. Therefore, different types of items in the graphs are colored differently, so that all corresponding items can be easily selected together for changing their properties or for deleting them.

The .svg vector graphics files saved by MorphoJ can be opened and modified by many commercial programs such as Adobe Illustrator or CorelDraw, and an excellent program available for free is Inkscape. Many web browsers (at least the newer versions) also open .svg vector graphics files for viewing (useful for quick checks).

Close Panel

The graphs produced by various analyses in MorphoJ are organized as tabbed panels in the Graphics window. The active panel can be removed by selecting Close Panel from the panel's popup menu.

If the graph is part of a group of panels that belong to the output from an analysis, a dialog box will appear to ask the user whether all the panels should be removed.

If a graph has been closed, it can be produced again by going to the Project Tree and invoking the Display Graphs entry from the popup menu of the corresponding analysis or dataset.
